Purpose of the Programme

The Sasol Female Professional Driver Learnership Programme has been specifically designed to empower and develop women who aspire to build careers in professional driving within the logistics and transport industry.

The key objective of this learnership is to provide female candidates with a valid Code 10 driver’s licence the opportunity to gain the technical knowledge and hands-on experience required to upgrade to a Code 14 driver’s licence. This is a crucial qualification for operating heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), and the programme will equip learners with essential professional driving skills to prepare them for employment in the broader transport and logistics sector.

As part of the programme, learners will also receive structured support to obtain a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) and a Dangerous Goods Certification, which are vital regulatory requirements for professional drivers in South Africa.

The learnership consists of two main components:

  1. Theoretical Training: A structured academic element aligned to an NQF Level 3 qualification. This component equips learners with foundational knowledge of transport operations, road safety, compliance requirements, and workplace readiness.
  2. Practical Workplace Experience: On-the-job training at Sasol’s operational sites, where learners will apply their theoretical knowledge in real workplace situations. Under mentorship and guidance, they will develop confidence, competence, and the professional discipline required of drivers handling heavy-duty vehicles.

Through this holistic approach, Sasol ensures that learners not only gain technical driving skills but also develop broader workplace competencies that enhance their employability and career growth.

Key Responsibilities

As a participant in the programme, learners will be expected to:

  • Actively participate in all aspects of the learnership programme, including classroom training, workplace readiness sessions, and practical driving exercises.
  • Successfully complete assessments and evaluations required for the NQF-aligned component of the programme.
  • Demonstrate commitment, responsibility, and discipline in both theoretical and practical training environments.
  • Engage in workplace readiness activities, team exercises, and skills-development initiatives designed to improve performance and workplace adaptability.
  • Uphold Sasol’s values of safety, accountability, integrity, and excellence at all times.
