Introduction
The South African Police Union (SAPU) is proud to introduce a youth empowerment initiative for 2025, offering 150 learnership opportunities across five provinces. This programme is specifically tailored for dependants of active SAPU members and aims to equip young people with recognised qualifications, employability skills, and workplace experience. Beyond education and training, the initiative reflects SAPUโs commitment to strengthening families while driving positive community change.
About SAPU
SAPU is a representative body for police officers throughout South Africa. Since its inception, the union has consistently worked to protect membersโ rights and support their families. Education, skills development, and career empowerment form a crucial part of SAPUโs vision to improve socio-economic conditions. The learnership programme is a cornerstone of this mission, giving young South Africans the tools they need to secure meaningful employment and contribute productively to society.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the SAPU Learnership Programme, applicants must:
- Be a dependent (child, niece, nephew, etc.) of a registered SAPU member.
- Be between the ages of 18 and 35.
- Hold a matric certificate or equivalent qualification.
- Have no criminal record.
- Be supported by a valid Dibanani/MA-SAPU policy linked to the SAPU member.
- Submit certified copies of both the applicantโs and SAPU membersโ ID documents.
Provincial Allocation of Learnerships
The 150 available placements will be distributed as follows:
- Eastern Cape โ 40
- Free State โ 40
- Mpumalanga โ 25
- Gauteng โ 25
- Northern Cape โ 20
Programme Responsibilities
Those selected will be enrolled in structured programmes combining classroom learning and workplace practice. Learners will:
- Pursue accredited qualifications such as New Venture Creation NQF Level 2 and Youth Development NQF Level 5.
- Gain practical skills in administration and youth development roles.
- Acquire workplace readiness skills to enhance employability.
- Apply their knowledge to make a meaningful impact within their communities.
