Key Responsibilities
The role of a Soup Truck Driver is dynamic and rewarding. Your main duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Driving and Delivery
- Operate the soup truck safely and responsibly while adhering to all traffic laws.
- Follow designated routes and strict schedules to ensure timely deliveries.
- Handle food products with care, ensuring soups arrive hot, fresh, and ready to serve.
- Maintain compliance with food safety and transportation regulations throughout all journeys.
2. Customer Service
- Greet and interact positively with customers and community members at each delivery point.
- Answer customer inquiries about the soups offered, ingredients, and portion sizes.
- Manage customer feedback and concerns professionally and helpfully.

3. Truck Maintenance
- Perform routine pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the truck is in safe operating condition.
- Keep the truck clean, tidy, and well-presented to reflect company standards.
- Identify mechanical issues early and report them promptly to management.
- Carry out basic maintenance tasks where necessary (e.g., checking oil, water, and tire pressure).
4. Inventory and Stock Management
- Assist with loading soup containers, utensils, and serving materials before departure.
- Unload supplies efficiently upon arrival at destinations or when returning to the base.
- Record stock levels accurately and report discrepancies to supervisors.
- Help maintain inventory controls to avoid wastage and shortages.
5. Safety and Compliance
- Drive responsibly, following all road safety rules to safeguard yourself, your passengers, and the general public.
- Adhere strictly to health and safety guidelines to protect the quality of food during transport.
- Comply with company regulations and demonstrate consistent professionalism on the job.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of Grade 10 or equivalent qualification.
- Previous experience as a driver or in food delivery is advantageous but not mandatory.
Licenses and Certifications:
- A valid Code 10 driverโs license with a clean driving record is essential.
- A Professional Driving Permit (PDP) will be considered a strong advantage.
Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent driving skills with sound knowledge of local routes in Alexandra, Protea Glen, and Mpumalanga.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective customer interaction.
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Basic numeracy and organizational skills to handle inventory or cash transactions when required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift medium-weight items (such as soup containers) safely.
- Comfortable with standing for extended periods and working in varied weather conditions.
Other Requirements:
- Must be available and willing to work weekends and public holidays when needed.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic are non-negotiable.
