The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health invites applications for the 2025 Intake of its Emergency Medical Care training programme, especially for unemployed youth. About the Programme

  • Qualification: Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care (HCert in EMC)
  • Duration: 1 Year
  • Credits: Minimum of 120 credits
  • NQF Level: 5
  • SAQA ID: 120401
  • Training Provider: KwaZulu-Natal College of Emergency Care, under the Department of Health.

Who Should Apply

This opportunity is for unemployed youth in KwaZulu-Natal who meet the academic and fitness criteria. You must have one of the following:

  • Matric / National Senior Certificate (NSC) with Higher Certificate Endorsement; or
  • National Certificate (Vocational) (NCV) qualification; or
  • Pre-2008 Senior Certificate.

You will also need to meet these subject requirements depending on your qualification type:

Other requirements:

  • Minimum Admission Point Score (APS) of 18.
  • Pass a medical fitness examination (to ensure physical ability).
  • Pass a physical fitness assessment.

How to Apply

  1. Get the Application Form: Visit your nearest District Health Human Resources Development (HRD) Office in KZN to collect the form.
  2. Fill it Out: Provide all required documentation (certified copies of your qualification(s), proof of identity, etc.).
  3. Submit the Form back to the District Health HRD Office as per instructions.
  4. Fitness & Medical Assessments: If shortlisted, you will undergo medical and physical fitness tests.
