About the Position

As part of this mission, we are seeking dedicated Grounds and Horticultural Workers who will play a key role in maintaining sports fields, public gardens, and community recreational areas. The successful candidates will contribute to creating safe, attractive, and functional outdoor spaces where residents can engage in sports, arts, and cultural activities.

Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Educational Qualification: Grade 10 or ABET Level 1 (or equivalent qualification).
- Driver’s Licence: A valid Code C driver’s licence is essential.
- Language Skills: Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English and at least one other official South African language.
- Experience: At least one (1) year relevant work experience in gardening, landscaping, horticulture, or related maintenance work.
Core Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks associated with the upkeep of municipal sports facilities and green spaces, including but not limited to:
- Grounds Maintenance:
- Cutting grass on sports fields and surrounding areas.
- Watering gardens, lawns, and flower beds using garden hoses, sprinklers, water tanks, and other irrigation methods.
- Preparing and tilting flower beds to ensure neatness and readiness for planting.
- Equipment and Machinery:
- Operating and cleaning lawnmowers, trimmers, and other horticultural machinery.
- Safely transporting raw materials, equipment, and tools to designated sites.
- Ensuring all machinery is properly cleaned, stored, and maintained after use.
- Repairs and Upkeep:
- Reporting damages, irregularities, and potential hazards to the supervisor.
- Performing minor painting, repair tasks, and other duties associated with the winter maintenance programme.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Adhering strictly to occupational health and safety requirements as prescribed by the Safety Act.
- Following all municipal regulations and standard operating procedures.
- Acting in line with Batho Pele Principles, ensuring respect, transparency, and service excellence in every task.
