Position Overview

As a Hotel Security Officer, you will be the first line of defense in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of everyone within the hotel environment. Your primary responsibilities will include patrolling the property, monitoring surveillance systems, handling emergency situations, and maintaining a visible and reassuring presence throughout the premises.

Key Responsibilities

The duties of the Hotel Security Officer are broad and essential to the daily operations of the hotel. Your day-to-day tasks will include:

  • Conducting routine patrols throughout all areas of the hotel, including guest floors, back-of-house facilities, parking areas, and entry points to ensure a secure environment.
  • Monitoring surveillance cameras, alarm systems, and other electronic security devices to identify potential risks or suspicious behavior.
  • Responding quickly and effectively to emergencies such as medical incidents, fire alarms, evacuations, theft, and disturbances to ensure guest and employee safety.
  • Reporting all incidents or irregular activities to hotel management and the Fidelity control room, ensuring that proper documentation and follow-up procedures are completed.
  • Enforcing hotel policies and security protocols, including access control, visitor management, and adherence to safety regulations.
  • Assisting guests with security-related inquiries, directions, or concerns in a courteous and professional manner that aligns with the hotel’s customer service standards.
  • Performing regular safety inspections of doors, locks, fire exits, extinguishers, lighting, and alarm systems to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.
  • Supporting hotel staff during events, VIP visits, and large gatherings to maintain order and protect property.
  • Cooperating with local law enforcement and emergency responders when incidents require additional assistance or investigation.
  • Maintaining a log of daily activities, incidents, and reports to ensure accurate records for management and audit purposes.
  • Providing input and feedback to management regarding potential improvements in security systems or procedures.

Required Qualifications and Skills

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification.
  • PSiRA Registration (minimum Grade C or higher).
  • Prior experience as a Security Officer, preferably within a hospitality or hotel environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with guests and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong situational awareness, observation, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of emergency response procedures, including fire safety, evacuation protocols, and first aid (first aid training will be an advantage).
  • Ability to work independently and within a team setting, maintaining a high level of integrity and discipline.
  • Must be physically fit, capable of standing or walking for extended periods, and able to climb stairs as part of regular patrols.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, as required by hotel operations.
  • A professional appearance, punctuality, and reliability are essential.

The Hotel Security Officer role requires sustained physical activity and alertness throughout the shift. Officers must be able to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods while patrolling large hotel areas.
  • Climb stairs and operate elevators safely during inspections or emergencies.
  • Respond rapidly to incidents in different areas of the property.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Safety gear and appropriate uniforms will be provided by Fidelity Services Group.
